The Non-Resident Ambassador of Republic of Austria, Her Excellency Brigitte Oppinger-Walchshofer, presented her Letter of Credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.
At the ceremony, the President welcomed the Ambassador to the Maldives, and congratulated her on the commencement of her term as the Ambassador of Austria to the Maldives.
Highlighting four decades of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Austria, President Yameen expressed hope to further strengthen the existing ties between the two countries. The President and the Ambassador discussed strengthening of joint efforts in regard to environment protection, enhancing tourism cooperation and working closely to address international issues of common concern. The Ambassador also proposed working closely to strengthen trade cooperation and collaborating in the hospitality sector.
During the call the President was accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, H.E. Mohamed Naseer and Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ahmed Sareer.
