President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called upon the Maldivian youth to be a more responsible citizen, and advocate for peace and national harmony. He made this remark while speaking to the people of Maafushi Island this afternoon, as part of his visit to the island.
During his speech the President said that the youth must promote the Islamic values and societal values in the country. The President noted that while politicians formulate policies, the actual workforce is comprised of the youth. The President also said that the dynamisms of youth is essential for national progress. 
Highlighting that the administration aims at expanding the guesthouse business in Maafushi Island, President Yameen announced the administration’s decision to handover the land previously occupied by the Juvenile Rehabilitation Center to the Maafushi Island community. The President noted that using this land for development projects and to build more guesthouses will create more job opportunities for youth and raise the income of the people. 
During his visit to Maafushi Island, President Yameen took part in the ceremony to mark the completion of the beach protection project in the Island.
The President is currently on a one day visit to 3 Islands of Male’ Atoll. As part of his visit President Yameen has inaugurated the harbour of Thulusdhoo Island this morning. The President will later travel to Guraidhoo Island and inaugurate the island’s harbour and clean drinking water services.
