The Secretary General of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen has paid a courtesy call to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom this morning at the President’s Office.

During the call, President Yameen noted that the OIC is the strongest organisation for Islamic countries and expressed interest in strengthening Maldives’ relationships with other Islamic countries via the OIC.

Further, discussions were held with regard to OIC observing Presidential Elections to be held later this year. Additionally, ways in which the OIC can contribute to the government’s efforts in solving the current issues faced by the Maldives were also discussed at today’s call.

Moreover, His Excellency Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, emphasized that the OIC will work with the Government of the Maldives and also reiterated the OIC’s commitment in assisting the Maldives and its people in every way possible.

President Yameen was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Fisheries and agriculture, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Shainee, Minister of Legal Affairs at the President’s Office, H.E. Uza. Aishath Azima Shakoor, and the Foreign Secretary H.E. Ahmed Sareer.
