The Government of the Republic of Maldives has held the official welcoming ceremony for the visiting Prime Minister of Pakistan, His Excellency Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Spouse, Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif. The ceremony was held this evening at the Republic Square.
On arrival at the Izzuddin Jetty, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Begum Kalsoom were greeted by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim.
A bugle call was sounded on arrival of the Pakistani Prime Minister and Begum Kalsoom, after which President Yameen accompanied the visiting Prime Minister to the saluting dais, and a 7-Gun Salute was offered; followed by which the national anthems of Pakistan and Maldives were played. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif then proceeded to inspect a Guard of Honour by the Maldives National Defence Force.
At the ceremony, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was introduced to the Vice President, Cabinet Ministers, and other senior officials of the Maldivian Government. The members of the Pakistani delegation were then introduced to President Yameen.
President of the Maldives and Prime Minister of Pakistan walked to the President’s Office in traditional welcome procession.
