President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim attended the ceremony held to mark the anniversary of the day Maldives embraced Islam, held at Republic Square this evening. Vice President Abdulla Jihad also attended the ceremony.
While addressing in the ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed reflected on the President, and the Administration’s, commitment to preserving the nation’s Islamic faith. He further stated that the past three years demonstrated proof of the respect shown, towards the Islamic faith, by President Yameen.
At the ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad spoke about the early period of the Islamic caliphate and highlighted that our religious faith was a blessing to be passed on to future generations.
During the ceremony Ms. Aiminath Minha Nasih, representing the Maldivian youth addressed the attendees; speaking on the subject of Maldives embracing Islam 890 years ago.
The Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef as well as Senior officials of the administration attended the ceremony.
