President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has today inaugurated the harbour and mosque at Makunudhoo Island in South Thiladhummathi Atoll. The President is currently on a tour of some islands in South Thiladhummathi Atoll, and Kanditheemu Island of North Miladhummadulu Atoll.

Upon meeting the people of Makunudhoo afterwards, the President stated that the development was the right of every Maldivian and that the current administration is working towards solving key issues in different areas of the country. In this regard, the President shed light on current and future development projects targeted throughout the country, especially for urban development in the northern region of Maldives. Continuing on, President Yameen also spoke about empowering women, fisheries, tourism, and the political situation of the country.

At the ceremony the President was awarded with an honorary plaque, Makunudhoo Council President Mr. Mohamed Shakir presented the plaque on behalf of the island’s residents.

The Makunudhoo harbour is 790 feet long and 375 feet wide, with a total value of 69.3 million Maldivian Rufiyaa. The harbour was developed by the administration in order to solve the difficulties faced by the residents in docking at the island, whereby easing current travel burdens significantly.

‘Masjidul Thaqwa’ mosque inaugurated today is a more than 5 million Rufiyaa government funded project which accommodates 700 people at a time.

The President was accompanied by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad, Members of the Cabinet, some Members of the Parliament and senior officials of the government companies.
