Vice President Abdulla Jihad has attended the official certification ceremony marking the ‘Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis’ in the Maldives. The event was held at Bandos Island Resort on Tuesday morning.

Speaking at the function, the Regional Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) for South East Asia, Dr. Poonam Ketrapal Singh highlighted that the Maldives was the first country in South East Asia to successfully eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis. Furthermore she said that the Maldives provides a shining example to other countries in the region and the world.

During the ceremony, Regional Director Singh presented the ‘Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis’ plaque and citation to the Maldives – Minister of Health Hon. Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim accepted the plaque and citation on the nation’s behalf.

During the ceremony, the Vice President and Regional Director for WHO, released a brochure on the elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis.

Minister of Health Hon. Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim addressed the ceremony and thanked the health sector workers who helped in entirely eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis in the Maldives. He also renewed the commitment of the administration to better the healthcare facilities in the Maldives.

The ceremony was attended by health workers and senior administration officials.
