His Excellency Abdulla Jihad has been sworn in as the Vice President of the Maldives. The Vice President took his oath of office at the President’s Office at a ceremony held this afternoon. The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice, Hon. Uz. Abdulla Saeed. The Vice President signed the oath thereafter.
The Vice President has served the Government for an extended period of time and his previous posts include Budget Secretary at the Department of Finance and Budget Analyst, Assistant Director & Deputy Director at Ministry of Finance and Treasury. At the Department of Inland Revenue he held the posts of Deputy Director, Director and Assistant Director General. He has also filled the post of Vice Governor and Governor at the Maldives Monetary Authority.
His Excellency Abdulla Jihad, who was the administration's Minister of Finance and Treasury before he was sworn in as Vice President has held the cabinet portfolio for Minister of Finance and Treasury during two previous administration; that of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.
