President Mohamed Nasheed this afternoon attended a function organised by the Maldives Seafood Processors and Exporters Association, on the occasion of the Maldives Fishermen’s Day, to introduce aquaculture and mariculture industries to the Maldives.

Speaking at the function, the President said developing aquaculture and mariculture industries sustainably and efficiently would increase the benefits of the country’s natural resources for the people.

He said while tuna catch from traditional fishing industry and the revenue from that industry was in decline, it was important to diversify fisheries industry and utilize the commercial benefits of other marine resources available in the Maldives.

At the function held at Aarah this afternoon, information were given on different aquaculture and mariculture products that could be developed in the Maldives.
