The new Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr. Bryce David Hutchesson has presented his Credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Tuesday morning.
At the ceremony, President Yameen congratulated the Australian High Commissioner on the commencement of his term and welcomed him to the Maldives. The High Commissioner said that it was an honour and privilege to serve as the High Commissioner to the Maldives.
Discussions at the meeting that followed were focused on the long existing bilateral relations between the Maldives and Australia, and ways to further strengthen the good relations. President Yameen expressed appreciation for the opportunity being made available for human resource development of the Maldives, which also helps to bring our two peoples together. President Yameen noted with appreciation the support from the Government of Australia towards strengthening the education sector in the Maldives. The Maldives Education Sector Volunteer Programme (MESVP) was signed between the two countries in 2013 as part of the Australian Volunteers International Development Program.
The President and the High Commissioner also spoke on the threat of global terrorism and the importance of all countries working together to combat the issue.
President Yameen was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of Foreign Affairs Her Excellency Dunya Maumoon and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
