With the Maldives to hold a 'Maldives Investment Forum' in Mumbai this year, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom assured the Indian Government that Indian investments were always welcome in the Maldives and that his administration encouraged investments that were mutually beneficial. The President reaffirmed this commitment during a courtesy call by Minister of External Affairs of India, Her Excellency Sushma Swaraj, on the President. The meeting was held at The Leela Palace in New Delhi.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to work with India against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and strengthen cooperation to enhance maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean Region.
The President highlighted that the Maldives highly values the on-going security cooperation with India, which has been marked now as a significant ingredient that characterizes the cordiality of relations between the two countries.
The President and the Minister of External Affairs also discussed establishing a Maldivian Educational and Cultural Centre in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Maldivian delegation during the President’s official visit to India comprises of Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee, High Commissioner to India from Maldives Mr. Ahmed Mohamed and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
