President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to the Prime Minister of Belgium, His Excellency Charles Michel, following the bomb attacks at the Zaventem Airport, Schuman and Maalbeek metro stations.

The President’s message reads as follows;

“I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the bomb attacks at the Zaventem Airport, Schuman and Maalbeek metro stations causing the tragic loss of life and injury to many.”

“The Maldives strongly condemns all acts of terror and violence perpetuated against innocent people and believes that they serve no purpose other than causing absolute misery, instilling fear and distress. We are fully committed to the fight against terrorism and express our firm solidarity with Belgium in all its efforts to maintain national peace and harmony.”

“The Government and the people of the Maldives join me in conveying our deepest sympathies to the Government and people of Belgium during this challenging time. Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
