President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom said that his administration will encourage and assist private businesses in building the nation. He stated this while speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate clean drinking water services in Gaddhoo Island.

While speaking at the ceremony, the President highlighted that, while some of the news agencies in Maldives criticized this administration for utilizing international aid for developmental projects of the Maldives, it was his belief that Maldives does not yet have the capacity to conduct every developmental project without assistance. The President also said that it was an obligation upon him as the leader of the country at that time, to procure international aid if necessary and it was not a matter worthy of public criticism.

While highlighting the challenges faced by the government in providing the essential amenities to the public, the President said that it is not an easy feat to provide all the necessities to 180 inhabited islands at the same time because of geographical composition of Maldives. But The President said that the government is trying day and night to diminish these challenges to fulfil the needs of the people.

The President further stated that he wanted to ensure that by the end of his term at least 50 inhabited islands would get clean drinking water service and proper sewerage systems.

Speaking at the ceremony the President stated that he commenced his presidential term with a practical manifesto and the work being done now was to speed up the process and complete the practical work of what was described in the manifesto in a timely manner.

While speaking at the ceremony the President shed light on how some politicians are straying from the truth to manipulate the international world of the actual situation in the Maldives for their personal benefit. He stated that these rumors were having a negative impact on the development of the nation and that the government has had to invest its time and effort to remedy such efforts. The President further said that this was time and effort which could actually be invested in the development of the nation.

During this event the President unveiled the memorial to officially inaugurat the clean drinking water services in Gaddhoo. The Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, the Parliament member of Gaddhoo constituency Mr. Ahmed Rasheed and the President of the Gaddhoo council Mr. Mohamed Ahmed spoke at the ceremony.

The President was accompanied at the ceremony by Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Parliament member of Gaddhoo constituency Mr. Ahmed Rasheed and some top level government officials.
