Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed today inaugurated the Counter Terrorism Workshop jointly organized by the government and the British High Commission.

In his opening remarks, the Vice President asserted that there was nothing more important than creating and maintaining a peaceful environment for the people in our country.

He said when the threat of terrorism was affecting every country, the Maldives was not exempt from the risks associated with international terrorism.

Therefore, he underscored the importance of making counter terrorism strategy an integral part of the national security policy.

The Vice President said that to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for Maldivians, and to realize the freedoms envisioned by the democratic reforms, we should create an environment where diverse opinions and views could coexist peacefully.

Two day workshop that began in Aarah this morning aims to develop a counter terrorism strategy for the Maldives and share experiences in the area between the Maldives and the United Kingdom.
