President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that it is essential for small countries to work together to overcome the challenges faced in development. The President stated this during a call held this morning at the President’s Office. During this call, the new High Commissioner Designate of Cyprus, His Excellency Mr. Demetrios A. Theophylactou presented his credentials to the President.
At the ceremony, President Yameen congratulated the new High Commissioner on the commencement of his term. During this meeting the President and the High Commissioner discussed that areas be further explored in order to enhance the good working relationship between the two countries. The President stated that as both countries are small, both need to work together to fulfil common, as well as individual, interests within the larger international community.
Speaking at the meeting, the High Commissioner of Cyprus expressed his hopes to further develop the existing bilateral relationship between both countries, particularly in areas bolstering stability and prosperity.
The President was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Dunya Maumoon and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
