The W.H.O. Regional Director for South-East Asia Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh has said that Maldives has accomplished what many countries just talk about doing, in the area of healthcare development. She made this remark at a meeting with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom this morning.
Speaking at the meeting President Yameen shared with the Regional Director of W.H.O, the Government health policies for the advancement of the healthcare system of Maldives. The President highlighted that future plans include developing a mechanism that would enable easier access to healthcare facilities, in all parts of the country.
At the meeting discussions were also held on the Government’s plans to improve the existing healthcare system in Maldives. The President briefed the Regional Director on the challenges being faced in expanding the healthcare services provided in the country.
Speaking at the meeting W.H.O. Regional Director for South-East Asia Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh commended the work done in the health sector of Maldives. She said that the Maldives’ achievements were noteworthy even on an international level. Furthermore, Dr. Poonam Sigh assured the President of W.H.O’s continuous support and assistance in developing the Maldivian Healthcare System.
The President was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of Health Hon. Irthisham Adam and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
