Special Envoy of the Chinese President, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, Shen Yueyue, has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The Chinese Special Envoy’s visit to the Maldives was made to attend the Independence Day celebrations.
At the meeting held this afternoon at the President’s Office, the President and the Chinese Special Envoy highlighted the blooming Maldives-China friendship.
Speaking at the meeting, the President stated that China has proven to be a very significant companion in the development of the Maldivian economy. The President also stated that this friendship between the two countries was based on mutual trust and sincerity. Furthermore, the President said that the bilateral ties between the Maldives and China was a very strong union, and that the Maldives-China friendship bridge would symbolise this relation. President Yameen expressed his appreciation for the Chinese President’s continued support and assistance extended to the Maldives.
At the meeting, the Chinese Special Envoy expressed her gratitude to the Maldivian Government for the invitation to attend the Independence Day celebrations. Commenting on the enduring relations between China and Maldives, the Special Envoy highlighted the prospects for further consolidation of relations between both countries. She also assured President Yameen of China’s continued support and assistance to the Maldives.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Minister of Education, Dr. Aishath Shiham, Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Maldivian Ambassador to China, H.E.
