Special Envoy of the Chinese President, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, Shen Yueyue, has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor. The Chinese Special Envoy’s visit to the Maldives was made to attend the Independence Day celebrations.
At the meeting held this afternoon at the President’s Office, the Vice President emphasised the fact that China was one of the major contributors in the economic development of the Maldives. He also expressed his appreciation to the Special Envoy of China, for joining the Maldivians in celebrating their Golden Jubilee of National Independence.
Vice President Adheeb and the Special Envoy noted the good relations between the Maldives and China, and discussed ways to further enhance relations. The Vice President also expressed his gratitude to the Chinese President for his contributions to strengthening the friendly ties between the two countries.
At the meeting, Special Envoy of the Chinese President, Shen Yueyue congratulated Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor on his assumption of office. She further expressed her gratitude to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for his continuous efforts in strengthening ties between the Maldives and China.
The Vice President was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Minister of Education, Dr. Aishath Shiham, and Director at the President’s Office, Mohamed Hassaan. Also in attendance at the meeting was the Chinese delegation visiting Maldives for the Independence Day functions.
