President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to all Maldivian youth to say no to all parties who encourage them to commit offenses. The President made this appeal while meeting the country’s youth on Saturday evening. First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim also attended the function.
In his speech, the President highlighted the many endeavours being undertaken by the Government especially designed for the future of the youth generation. In this regard, the President noted the high number of opportunities being facilitated to the youth in employment, higher education and entrepreneurship. President Yameen also pointed out that one should possess the required skills as well as the ambition to achieve one’s goals. He noted that the Government could only facilitate opportunities, and that it was up to the individual to seize it.
Speaking at the function, President Yameen described the Maldives’ youth as the dynamo of the nation, and the energy source of economic development. The President said that Maldivian youth must work relentlessly during their youthful years with the determination to improve the country’s GDP. The President underlined the high importance accorded by his administration to working with the youth to take the country to newer heights and to realise newer goals. Continuing on, the President said that, as the Government facilitates numerous opportunities for the youth, and as a partnership is being established between the Government and the youth, both the Government and the youth must be sincere in their output of results.
Highlighting the state of the country’s economy at the time of coming in to power, President Yameen said that the Government came in to office with numerous pledges and enormous hope for the youth. He said that the Government’s goal was to work with the youth in paving the way for a brighter future for them.
