Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz, has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom this evening, as part of the President’s current state visit to Pakistan.

At the meeting, discussions were focused on maintaining good relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, and continuing support and cooperation in international forums. The President and the Advisor to the Pakistani Prime Minister also underscored strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries through SAARC.

President Yameen highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between Maldives and Pakistan in the areas of defense, education and health. He expressed confidence that the good relations between the two countries would further flourish in the future.

Advisor to the Pakistani Prime Minister, Mr. Sartaj Aziz noted the importance of establishing good diplomatic relations with neighbouring countries, and maintaining peace in the region. Mr. Aziz also assured President Yameen of Pakistan’s continuous support to the Maldives in all areas. Further, the Advisor to the Pakistani Prime Minister briefed President Yameen on the improvements in Pakistan’s economy, and expressed hopes of increasing its growth rate.
