The new Bangladeshi High Commissioner accredited to the Maldives, Rear Admiral Kazi Sarwar Hossain presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom this morning.

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated High Commissioner Hossain on the commencement of his term. Following the ceremony, the President and the ‎High Commissioner discussed ways to further enhance existing close friendly relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh; ‎and explored new avenues ‎for cooperation, including trade and economy, human resource development, and fisheries.

The President expressed his gratitude to the Bangladeshi Government for their assistance provided to the Maldives during the recent water crisis in Male’, and for Bangladesh’s support to the Maldives in the international arena.

High Commissioner Hossain assured the President of his firm commitment to strengthening bilateral ties during his tenure as the Bangladeshi High Commissioner to the Maldives.

At the meeting, the President also conveyed his condolences on the passing away of a Bangladeshi worker in Male’, last Sunday. The High Commissioner said that all respective institutions have briefed him extensively on the matter, and expressed his appreciation for the support from the Maldives’ Government and Police to all Bangladeshis working in the Maldives.

The meeting was attended by Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
