President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that 75% of the total Maldivian population can be settled in Hulhumale’. The President made this statement while speaking to the local media during his visit to Hulhumale’ this afternoon, to inspect the progress of the second phase of the Hulhumale’ Development Project.
Speaking to the media, President Yameen highlighted that 95% of the reclamation work for the second phase was now completed and that the revetment and shore protection works would be completed by March next year.
Underscoring the residential and commercial development of Hulhumale’, President Yameen highlighted that the second phase would be developed with a view to relocate youth and their families from smaller islands. Continuing in this regard, President Yameen said that housing facilities would be developed to cater the needs of all classes of population. The President further reiterated the Government’s commitment to provide an affordable social housing scheme to all employed youth.
During the visit, the President observed the progress of the newly reclaimed land area and viewed a presentation prepared by HDC on the Master plan of Hulhumale development project.
The President was accompanied by some Members of the Cabinet, Members of the Peoples’s Majlis and Senior Officials of Government institutions.
