President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that 75% of ‎the total Maldivian population can be settled in Hulhumale’. The President ‎made this statement while speaking to the local media during his visit to ‎Hulhumale’ this afternoon, to inspect the progress of the second phase of ‎the Hulhumale’ Development Project.‎

Speaking to the media, President Yameen highlighted that 95% of ‎the reclamation work for the second phase was now completed and that the ‎revetment and shore protection works would be completed by March next ‎year. ‎

Underscoring the residential and commercial development of ‎Hulhumale’, President Yameen highlighted that the second phase would be ‎developed with a view to relocate youth and their families from smaller ‎islands. Continuing in this regard, President Yameen said that housing ‎facilities would be developed to cater the needs of all classes of population. ‎The President further reiterated the Government’s commitment to provide ‎an affordable social housing scheme to all employed youth. ‎

During the visit, the President observed the progress of the newly ‎reclaimed land area and viewed a presentation prepared by HDC on the ‎Master plan of Hulhumale development project. ‎

The President was accompanied by some Members of the Cabinet, ‎Members of the Peoples’s Majlis and Senior Officials of Government ‎institutions. ‎
