President Mohamed Nasheed has attended the Commonwealth Games 2010 Opening Ceremony.

Britain’s Prince Charles and Indian President Pratibha Patil, who opened the Commonwealth Games, and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were also present at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Other foreign dignitaries who attended the colourful opening ceremony included New Zealand Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand, Monac’s Prince Albert II and Nauru President Marcus Stephen.

The Maldives contingent at the Commonwealth Games this year includes 30 athletes participating in six different sports.

Earlier today, President Mohamed Nasheed met with the athletes and encouraged all participants to show their best performance at the Games and represent the country with pride.
