The new Non-resident High Commissioner of Brunei accredited to the Maldives, H.E. Haji Saifulbahri bin Haji Mansor, presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning.

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present credentials, President Yameen welcomed the new High Commissioner to the Maldives, and congratulated him on the commencement of his term.

Meeting the new Bruneian High Commissioner after the ceremonial presentation of credentials, President Yameen noted the strong diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Brunei, and expressed his confidence that the two countries would further strengthen the existing relations during High Commissioner Haji Mansor’s tenure. At the meeting, the President briefed the High commissioner on the Government’s plans for the advancement of the Maldivian economy and urban development, and the opportunities for foreign investors in the Maldives.

The President also spoke on the work being done by the Maldives in its campaign against climate change, and as an environmental advocate. He stated that it was time for small states like Maldives and Brunei to make a difference in the global arena, and noted the importance of supporting each other at international fora.

The High Commissioner of Brunei assured the President of his commitment to strengthening the existing bilateral bonds between the two countries. He discussed with the President, areas in which Brunei could extend assistance to the Maldives in the future.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
