President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called on the parliament to pass the amendments proposed by the Government to the Prevention of Threats and Dangerous Weapons Bill, before the parliament breaks for recess. The President made this appeal while speaking at the function held on Thursday evening to celebrate a successful 365 days in office.
In his speech, President Yameen highlighted that the Government has proposed amendments to existing legislation in order to ensure national security, as well as the protection of Maldivians against violent crimes.
Continuing on, President Yameen stated that the Government would show no mercy for those that slaughter Maldivians without mercy, and pledged that it would not hesitate to enforce the death penalty against those individuals. The President asserted that such actions by the Government were necessary in order to safeguard the dignity and collective rights of the Maldivian people.
Within this context, President Yameen stated that every Maldivian has the right to live without fear or intimidation, and underlined the high priority afforded by his Administration to maintaining peace and stability in the country.
“My highest priority is to ensure national security, and the security of all Maldivians. Protecting the people from violent crimes and atrocities is the main goal of this Government. Insha’Allah we will attain this goal”, the President stated in his speech.
