Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has announced that an additional 710 housing units will be added to the 3,260 homes already contracted through the Bank of Maldives (BML) in Hulhumalé Phases I and II and Vilimalé. He made the announcement during today's edition of the Presser with the Spox series while responding to questions from journalists regarding the Government's housing projects.
The Spokesperson stated that concept designs for all but one of the social housing projects awarded to contractors through BML have been finalised and that physical works are expected to commence accordingly.
Addressing broader economic matters, the Spokesperson said that while the Administration gives due consideration to the advice of financial institutions, it will not compromise the pace of development required to provide citizens with essential services and basic necessities. He stressed that economic initiatives must progress in tandem with efforts to strengthen the country's financial position and that all viable opportunities for development should be actively pursued. He further affirmed that, while financial institutions are expected to perform their respective mandates, the Government will continue to address these matters through a measured and balanced approach.
The Spokesperson also underscored that human development remains the most enduring legacy of the current Administration, noting that the Maldives National Service best reflects the vision and leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Providing an update on the MNS, the Spokesperson reported that 1,244 applicants applied in the first intake, of whom 350 successfully completed the service and 65 completed skills training. In the second intake, 350 participants completed their training, including 75 who completed skills training. In the third intake, 1,785 applications were received, with 352 participants successfully completing the programme.
