President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that irrespective of criticism levelled against the Government, it has without doubt, continuously delivered on its manifesto promises. The President made this comment while speaking at the function held to inaugurate the distribution of power generators to the atolls, under the Government’s scheme to ensure round the clock electricity to all inhabited islands.
Commending his Cabinet Ministers for their hard work in delivering manifesto promises to the public, President Yameen appealed to the Cabinet to continue to work together to ensure that the Government’s vision and goals are attained.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Yameen further stated that despite a myriad of challenges, the Government was dedicated to working with various partners, such as state owned companies, in order to provide critical services to the Maldivian people. In this regard, the President highlighted the Government’s vision to ensure the provision of round the clock electricity to all inhabited islands in the Maldives, by mid-2015.
Continuing on, President Yameen stressed that his Government rightly considers all Maldivian to be first class citizens, and would not prioritize residents of Male’ over those living in other parts of the country when delivering developmental services.
Commenting on the Government’s energy policy, the President also highlighted efforts to harness renewable energy sources to replace the country’s present reliance on fuel. In this context, President Yameen announced plans to install solar panels in 5 islands around the country in 2015, including Feydhoo and Hithadhoo of Addu City. The President stated that such policies would cut down on electricity costs.
