President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has met with the Chinese President, H.E. Xi Jinping. The meeting was held Monday morning, at the President's Office.

Noting that this was the first official visit made by a Chinese Head of State, President Yameen, on behalf of the Government and people of Maldives, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese President. President Yameen further emphasised the long-standing ties between the two countries, as well as the people of Maldives and China.

The President also expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Government for the invitation to be part of the Maritime Silk Road initiative. Highlighting the strengthened relations between Maldives and China during President Xi's tenure, President Yameen thanked his Chinese counterpart for the continued support and assistance extended to the Maldives.

Commenting on the enduring relations between China and Maldives, President Xi expressed his gratitude to the Maldivian Government for the hospitality lent to His Excellency and the official Chinese delegation. The Chinese President also highlighted the prospects for further consolidation of relations due to the Maritime Silk Road initiative.

At the meeting, President Xi extended an invitation to President Yameen to make a State Visit to China.
