President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that his Government will work towards bringing major economic transformations. The President made this comment while speaking to the local media prior to the departure of Former President, H. E. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, to Samoa, on Thursday, to attend the 3rd International Conference on Small Island Developing States.

Commenting on the Government sponsored Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Bill passed by the People’s Majilis, President Yameen emphasized that his Government would undertake efforts to establish a legal environment conducive to foreign investment, including the provision of appropriate legal protections to investors.

While speaking to the local media, the President also stated that he has sought the legal advise of the Attorney General regarding the ratification of the SEZ Bill, and noted that the Government would work towards the Bill’s swift ratification. President Yameen further highlighted Government plans to attract foreign investors to the Maldives, under the provisions of the SEZ law.
