Former President, H. E. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has departed to Samoa, on Thursday, to attend the 3rd International Conference on Small Island Developing States. The former President is attending the ceremony as a special envoy of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Meeting the local media prior to his departure, President Maumoon highlighted the main issues on agenda at this year’s conference. In this regard, he noted that the highest priority would be accorded to resolving the issues faced by small island nations, in the areas of environment and security. President Maumoon also underscored that discussions will be held on assuring the implementation of the resolutions passed during previous conferences.
Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and Minister of Environment and Energy Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim, will also attend the 3rd International Conference on Small Island Developing States, as part of the Maldivian delegation.
