President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has met with the ‎visiting President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa. The meeting was ‎held at the President’s Office this evening.‎

The two leaders discussed ways to enhance the existing close ‎friendly relations between the two countries. They also explored new ‎areas for bilateral and development cooperation.‎

‎ President Yameen thanked President Rajapaksa for accepting ‎his invitation to visit the country, and extended a warm welcome to the ‎Sri Lankan President to the Maldives on behalf of the people, and on his ‎own behalf. He reiterated the Maldives’ support to Sri Lanka in the ‎global arena, and expressed his gratitude to the Sri Lankan Government ‎for the continuous assistance provided to the Maldives. President ‎Yameen especially noted that the bilateral relations between the Maldives ‎and Sri Lanka has developed significantly, during President Rajapaksa’s ‎tenure.‎

President Rajapaksa expressed his gratitude to President ‎Yameen, the Government, and the people of Maldives, for the invitation ‎to make a visit to the Maldives. He reassured President Yameen, of Sri ‎Lanka’s willingness to assist the Maldives in every way.‎

President Yameen and President Rajapaksa further discussed ‎issues of mutual concern.‎

Upon arrival at the President’s Office, President Rajapaksa ‎signed the visitors’ book.‎
