UNICEF Representative in the Maldives Mr Mansoor M. Ali has paid his farewell call on President Mohamed Nasheed, today.

At a meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, President Nasheed thanked Mr Mansoor Ali for his valuable services to the Maldives, and especially expressed appreciation for his support to the government in holding the Maldives Donor Conference.

President Nasheed noted that Mr Ali served in the Maldives at an important time in the country and said he worked with the awareness of the challenges faced by the country during the transition period.

The President said the government would continue the projects initiated by UNICEF during Mr Ali’s tenure as the UNICEF representative.

Mr Mansoor Ali thanked the President and the government for the support he and UNCEF received during his term in office and said he was privileged to have had the opportunity to work in the Maldives.

He said he believed that the Maldives had much to offer to the international community, and noted the President’s leadership in bringing important issues to the top of the global agenda.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmed Shaheed and UNICEF Regional Director for South Asia Mr Daniel Toole.
