President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, following the tragic demise of Gopinath Munde, India’s Minister for Rural Development and senior leader of the BJP.
The President’s message reads as follows:
“It is with profound sorrow and sadness that I received the news of the tragic demise of Gopinath Munde, India’s Minister for Rural Development and senior leader of the BJP.”
“The late Shri Munde will surely be fondly remembered as a true champion of democracy and fundamental rights for the less privileged, especially in his beloved State of Maharastra. On your invitation, I, of course, had the honour of personally witnessing the historic swearing-in to office of your Union Cabinet of Ministers, which included Shri Gopinath Munde. I can, therefore, guage your deep sorrow at the loss of a close friend and comrade.”
“At this time of national mourning in India, the Government and the people of the Maldives and I personally join you, and the Government and people of India, in sharing your profound grief. Our sympathies also go out to the entire BJP family, of which Shri Munde was an integral member until his untimely passing away. Furthermore, please convey my sincere condolences to the bereaved family.”
