Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has officially inaugurated the 29th National Quran Competition. The inauguration ceremony was held today at the Islamic Centre.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President highlighted the importance of Quranic Studies for the instilment of good discipline and strong Islamic principles among students. He also attributed the success, peace and prosperity of the ‎nation to the presence of strong Islamic values within Maldivian society. However, he noted that further efforts need to be undertaken to mitigate current societal problems that are particularly prevalent among Maldivian youth today.

Continuing in this regard, Vice President Jameel re-affirmed the importance afforded by the Government to the construction and renovation of mosques around the country. He stated that in addition to the construction of the 10 mosques pledged by the Government of Saudi Arabia, the Government of the United Arab Emirates had also reassured their commitment to supporting the renovation of Masjid Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaan Al Auzam. Vice President Jameel indicated that the first phase of the renovation project would begin ahead of the Holy month of Ramadan.

In his speech, the Vice President also commended Maldivian parents for their relentless efforts in ensuring quality education for their children.
