New Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Moosa Manik, have paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office this afternoon, the President extended warm felicitations to the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. The President expressed hopes that this would be a more successful and productive parliament.
The President highlighted the importance of the Parliament passing the bills submitted by the Government, in order to achieve the goals set in the Government’s economic agenda. He also expressed hopes that the new parliament would provide its full cooperation to the Government.
At the meeting, the new Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed said that he would put in every effort to make this parliament a more efficient one, and expressed his confidence that all the members of the Parliament would work with the same spirit. Further highlighting President Yameen’s tenure in the Parliament, the Speaker of the Parliament said that President Yameen’s experience would be advantageous to the cooperation between the Parliament and the Government.
The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament reassured the President that this parliament would work for the benefit of the people, putting aside political differences.
