Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has today inaugurated Sea-Ambulance services in the Maldives. The ceremony was held this morning at the Official Jetty.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Jameel said the Sea-Ambulance will undoubtedly save the lives of many residents around the country, and it is therefore an important step towards fulfilling a key election pledge of the government.
The Vice President also noted that the Sea-Ambulance services will ensure the fast delivery of urgent medical services, while also cutting down the costs and inconveniences related to transporting patients from the various atolls to the Capital.
In this regard, Vice President Jameel further stated that the Government will seek to introduce 26 Sea-Ambulances to ensure that these services are extended to islands in the Maldives by the end of the year.
Commenting on the health sector in the country, the Vice President expressed his hope that the providers of medical services in the Maldives will work alongside the government to ensure the sincere and quality delivery of health services to all residents. In the provision of these services, Vice President Jameel also noted the importance of putting aside any political differences to meet the expectations of the public.
Before the conclusion of the ceremony, Vice President Jameel officially handed over the Medical Equipment Kit to the captain of the Kudahuvadhoo Sea Ambulance, Mr. Mohamed Zakariya, and was provided a tour of the Sea Ambulance. A demonstration of Sea-Ambulance services was also staged at the reception.
