President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has met with senior officials from the ruling Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) of India.

At the meeting held this afternoon at the hotel in which the Maldivian President is residing at, the President highlighted the key issues discussed during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this regard, the President reaffirmed Maldives’ commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with India.

The President conveyed his appreciation for receiving an invitation to attend ‎the momentous occasion of the inauguration of the New Prime Minister. ‎President Yameen also expressed hope that the historic move to extend invitation to all SAARC leaders would further enhance regional ties.

Deliberating the importance of promoting relations and understanding among the SAARC countries, President Yameen underscored the pivotal role played by India in regional affairs. Continuing in this line, President Yameen thanked the Government of India for the generous assistances provided to the Maldives during times of need.

Recalling the previous administration of BJP, President Yameen lauded support to the policies of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Continuing on, President Yameen noted the significant positive effects of the policies on regional growth.

Noting the Indian Government resolve to strengthen ties with other friendly nations, the BJP officials highlighted the long-standing bilateral relations that exist between the Maldives and India.
