President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed for the cooperation ‎of educated Maldivian youth, to steer the country towards the right direction. ‎The President made this remark while speaking at the O’Level Top Achievers ‎Awards 2013, the awarding ceremony of the highest achievers of the 2013 ‎Secondary Examinations. The Ceremony was held last evening at ‎Dharubaaruge.‎

Underscoring that majority of the Maldivian populace were youth, President ‎Yameen stressed on the diverse range of skills required for developing the ‎nation. Speaking in this regard, the President underlined the need for ‎energetic, skilled and capable youth to elevate the country to the next stage of ‎development. Speaking further, the President announced of the Government ‎plan to establish an Islamic University by the end of the year.‎

In his speech, President highlighted the importance of new ideas and ‎innovative strategies to develop the country. Noting that Secondary ‎education was the beginning of their academic lives, the President also ‎advised the students to make their academic journeys prosperous.‎

In his speech, President Yameen expressed appreciation for the commendable ‎efforts of the previous Governments to develop the country’s education ‎sector and human resource capacity.‎

At the function held this evening, President Yameen awarded the Presidential ‎Award of Top Achievement, to the four students who came first in the World ‎Top Ten. The President also presented awards to the 40 students who won ‎‎1st place in the National Top 10.‎

Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed presented awards to the 19 ‎students who achieved world top scores in individual subjects. ‎
