President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy ‎to President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, following the deadly mudslide in ‎the north-east province of Badakhshan.‎

The President’s message read as follows;‎

“I was deeply saddened to learn about the deadly mudslide in the north-east ‎province of Badakhshan, causing the loss of many innocent lives, injury to ‎thousands of people, as well as irrevocable damage to property and ‎infrastructure. While the search for survivors continues, we pray that, of ‎those that remain unaccounted for so far, more victims can be saved.”‎

“At this time of tragedy, the Government and the people of the Maldives join ‎me in sending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and the ‎brotherly people of Afghanistan. I wish the recovery efforts every success and ‎commend the tenacity of the Afghan people in the face of such tragedy.”‎

“Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved ‎families, and our solidarity with the grieving residents of Badakhshan and the ‎rescue workers.”‎
