President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, following the deadly mudslide in the north-east province of Badakhshan.
The President’s message read as follows;
“I was deeply saddened to learn about the deadly mudslide in the north-east province of Badakhshan, causing the loss of many innocent lives, injury to thousands of people, as well as irrevocable damage to property and infrastructure. While the search for survivors continues, we pray that, of those that remain unaccounted for so far, more victims can be saved.”
“At this time of tragedy, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in sending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and the brotherly people of Afghanistan. I wish the recovery efforts every success and commend the tenacity of the Afghan people in the face of such tragedy.”
“Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families, and our solidarity with the grieving residents of Badakhshan and the rescue workers.”
