High Commissioner of Singapore accredited to the Maldives H.E. Dr. Chua Yong Hai has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the President and the Singaporean High Commissioner highlighted the strong cordial relations maintained between the Maldives and Singapore, and explored areas of further cooperation.
The President shared with the High Commissioner, the developmental projects which were underway, and those planned for the future. In this regard, the President said that the Government was currently analysing the planned developmental projects to determine areas in need of immediate attention. He said that the Government will restructure its developmental agenda in a way that would cater to the most urgent issues.
Highlighting the challenges being faced by the Government, the President noted that the Maldives’ civil service sector was in great need of human resource development and capacity building. In this regard, the President and the Singaporean High Commissioner exchanged ideas on ways Singapore could extend cooperation in boosting the civil service system of the Maldives.
Further, the President said that the people of the Maldives were confident in the direction the Government was taking the country. He also expressed his hopes that his administration would be able to take the people to their desired destination.
The Singaporean High commissioner applauded the smooth electoral process during the parliamentary election held on 22 March 2014. He also said that the Singaporean Government gave high priority to carrying out the current projects in the Maldives, and assured of Singapore’s commitment to the capacity building programmes conducted by Singapore in the Maldives.
The meeting was attended by Minister at the President’s Office Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and Ambassador-at-Large H.E. Abdulla Hameed.
