President of Palestine, Dr. Mahmoud Abbas has invited President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, to make an official visit to the State of Palestine. The letter of invitation was presented to President Yameen during a courtesy call paid by the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Riad Malki.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the Palestinian Foreign Minister congratulated President Yameen on his election victory. Noting the close relations maintained between the Maldives and Palestine over the years, the President and the Palestinian Foreign Minister explored areas where cooperation could be extended, to further consolidate the bonds between the two countries.
Speaking in this regard, the Palestinian Foreign Minister briefed the President on plans for a doctors’ team to visit the Maldives, as part of health cooperation between the two countries. Furthermore, he discussed with the President, programmes that could be conducted in the areas of education, and agriculture.
At the meeting, the President and the Palestinian Foreign Minister also exchanged views on the international issues of mutual concern. President Yameen assured of the Maldives’ unrelenting support to Palestine in the global arena. The Palestinian Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the President for the support the Maldives has always extended to Palestine and its people.
The President was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and Ambassador-at-Large, H.E. Abdulla Hameed.
