Attorney General Husnu Al-Suood resigned from his post today, blaming the People's Majlis for failing to pass legislation needed to establish a permanent Supreme Court.

In his letter of resignation, Suood stated that the Majlis had failed to pass a number of acts that would make interim bodies, such as the Supreme Court, permanent.

Chapter 14 of the Constitution established a number of interim bodies that the Majlis must make permanent during the two-year interim period of the Constitution. The interim period of the Constitution expired on 7 August.

Suood said that the Majlis' failure to enact necessary legislation has left the country in legal limbo, making his job as Attorney General, as stipulated in Article 133 of the Constitution, untenable.

He said that the People's Majlis had “deliberately not attended
to its duties.”

Suood reaffirmed his support for the President and promised to continue helping the government after his resignation.
