Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki has today begun an official visit to India. He is making the visit at an invitation from India’s National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao.
During the visit Zaki will discuss with the Indian government, on ways of further strengthening the economic relations between the Maldives and India and acquiring a permit from the Indian government to buy basic food items to the Maldives on a long term basis.
The Special Envoy will also seek India’s assistance in capacity building for the judiciary in the Maldives.
He will also brief the Indian government on the current political situation in the Maldives.
