During a telephone conversation on Tuesday with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka has extended his congratulations on President Yameen’s election victory.
President Rajapaksa expressed warm felicitations to the newly-elected President of Maldives and highlighted the longstanding close-friendly ties between the peoples of Maldives and Sri Lanka. He assured President Yameen of his government’s eagerness on strengthening development cooperation between the neighborly countries.
President Yameen assured his Sri Lankan counterpart of his commitment to build on the prevalent close friendship with the Sri Lankan government and people. He also congratulated the Sri Lankan leader on the success of the recently-concluded Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
