Joint Secretary at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Mr Harsh Vardhan Shringla, has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

Discussions at the meeting were focused on the current political situation of the Maldives.

Mr Harsh Vardhan Shringla praised President Waheed for his “initiative and the decisive leadership shown” in finding a consensus to the election issue.

He said India would always maintain the best interest of the people of Maldives and would provide all necessary support and cooperation to the Maldives.

President Waheed highlighted that Maldives was undergoing many challenges and that all it required to overcome those challenges was the political will of our leaders.

He further assured that he would ensure a smooth and peaceful transition of power to the new government.
