President Dr Mohamed Waheed has handed over three vehicles to an atoll hospital and two health centres, at a ceremony held today at the President’s Office.
The vehicles were presented to South Nilandhe Atoll Hospital, South Thiladhunmathi Makunudhoo Health Centre and North Miladhunmadulu Narudhoo Health Centre.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Waheed said during his visits to the islands, he could understand the challenges the health centres and hospitals faced due to lack of vehicles. However, he said, due to budgetary constraints, the government had been unable to provide adequate assistance to the health centres and hospitals in the islands.
He said he was confident that with the help of vehicles that were presented to the Maldives, the atoll hospital and the two health centres would be able to improve their services to the people.
The vehicles were presented to the Maldives by a private party.
