President welcomes agreement reached between three candidates to have elections before 11 November

In a statement issued today, President Dr Mohamed Waheed has welcomed the agreement reached between three presidential candidates to have the elections before 11 November.

The President’s statement reads as follows:

“I am very happy that three candidates have met and agreed to hold the elections on November 2 and 9 respectively. This has given hope to the people that our leaders put the nation before their personal political ambitions. I hope that the Elections Commission will now do all it can to run a credible election on these dates. If successfully done, the nation will not have to face a constitutional crisis.”
