The commonwealth observers team who monitored the Maldives’ presidential election have paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
At the meeting held this afternoon at the Official Residence of the President, the teamed briefed the President on the proceedings and their observations of Election Day. Members of the team noted that voting was concluded very smoothly and peacefully.
Speaking at the meeting, the President expressed his confidence that the Maldives would receive Commonwealth’s support and assistance in the second round of voting as well. In addition, he said that the government would put in every effort to ensure that the second round of voting go smoothly.
