Elections observer delegation from the United Nations Department of Political Affairs has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office, discussions were focused on the presidential election which was held on 7th September.
The UN delegation commended the government of Maldives for conducting free, fair and transparent elections. In this regard, they urged the government to ensure the second round of elections, which was to be held on 28th September, is conducted in an equally credible and peaceful manner.
The President reiterated the government’s commitment to conduct a peaceful run-off elections and to ensure a smooth transition.
President Waheed expressed his gratitude to the UN for the continuous support and for the confidence placed in the Maldives.
