Cabinet has today decided to take measures to expand the services of the light industries to increase employment opportunities for the youth. The Cabinet made this decision after discussing a paper submitted by the Ministry of Economic Development.
Members of the Cabinet discussed the importance of establishing a mechanism to increase investments in the Maldives, by importing raw materials to manufacture goods locally. In this regard, Members made the decision to waive off import duties on machinery and materials brought in for the development of the industry.
Furthermore, the Cabinet decided on allocating land from the Hulhumale’ industrial area for the establishment of factories.
At today’s meeting, Members underlined the need of establishing a system to provide basic commodities to the people at affordable prices.
